Lord Forgive and Heal Us For We Hurt

Weeping God, we come to you, broken, lost, grieving,
for our sisters and brothers who were murdered in Orlando.
They are our brothers and sisters, for you are the One who Loves,
Our Mother, our Brother, our Sister, our Father,
Creator and sustainer of all that is.
Your children were killed for love,
killed from spite and rage and hate.
We pray too for the one who murdered and was himself killed.
Blessed One, transform us. Show us where we are full of hate.
Show us where we do not act or speak with love.
God, help us to be free.
    Teach us to love courageously.

We pray for those throughout your world that are treated unfairly
Because they are women, because they look different to us,
Or love differently, or speak another language,
Or pray to you by a different name.
We pray for women asking to be treated equally
To be able to pray at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem.
We pray for women, who are called to lead worship and preach,
To be in the boardroom and the building site.
We pray for our Muslim sisters and brothers
And ask you to bless Ramadan, their Lent.
Draw them closer to you in this holy month.
We thank you that in your eyes we are all yours
And that we are all welcomed by your motherly, loving embrace.
Give us courage to challenge unjust structures
That make it hard for us to welcome difference.
God, help us to be free.
    Teach us to love courageously.

We pray for those that have nowhere to lay their heads:
Refugees from war, refugees from drugs or violence or pain,
Homeless in their own land or another.
Most Holy, you fled violence in your own land
And lived as a refugee in Egypt.
Help us help those who are in their Egypt’s:
    Under bridges and in doorways,
In camps and resettling in new countries.
Beloved One, bless those that have come to America
    And into our respective communities.
Teach us to love them as you love them.
God, help us to be free.
    Teach us to love courageously.

We pray for those that are prisoners:
Imprisoned by their own or others’ actions,
Trapped by guilt, or pain, or loss, or grief.
God of Peace, you promised that we find our freedom
In loving you and trusting you.
Your hands bring healing and your heart love.
We especially pray for those we know who are lost,
Who ask for our prayers, who grieve loved ones.
God of a thousand names, we name before you silently
Those that we know that our hearts hurt for.

God, help us to be free.
    Teach us to love courageously.

Most loving God, teach us to welcome the stranger
Who shares a life and a time with us.
God, help us to be free.
    Teach us to love courageously.
    Amen.
