Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed!
Happy Easter Everyone! I pray your Easter season has been a blessed one.
I've been trying to send this newsletter since Friday, specifically because two of our members have written some excellent articles relevant to the season. I recommend them all as "good reads".
Rev Scott Williamson has written two short articles. Click on the links/titles to be taken to them.
Last Sunday, we commemorated Jesus final entry into Jerusalem in what has become known as Palm Sunday. Jesus enters the city on a young donkey from the east, where the day begins. From the west, where the day goes to die, enters Pilate on a war horse with all the pageantry of the state. There is going to be a clash between the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Man. Ironically it will all occur in Jerusalem, Hebrew for the City of Peace.
Sometimes we are not comfortable with anything that seems “too political” coming from the pulpit or from a church. But the fact of the matter is the gospel is political. Collins dictionary defines political as that which “relates to the way power is achieved and used in a country or society.” Who has the power? How is it used? ......
If the Bible is the word of God it has to be relevant to us today. If it is not relevant, it’s not the word of God. We can take the ancient text of the Bible, place it in its historic and literary contact and then lean forward and see how it may apply today. This is the beauty of our sacred text, it is why it has stood the test of time.
As Holy week comes to a close, we continue our journey from the palm parade to the cross. Jesus has entered Jerusalem on a donkey, making an in your face protest against the state and the corrupted organized religion of his day. Our next stop with Jesus is a garden to pray. Surrounded by the blooms of flowers and the smell of the olive trees, Jesus prays. ....
Brother Lawrence Damien has written a longer article:
Today we celebrate Good Friday, the day on which our Lord, Savior, and Master was crucified and buried.
What is the significance of this day? Some may see it as a sad time and see no reason to call it good. Others may say that Christ couldn’t have died on Friday as that would be only two days to Sunday instead of the three days the scriptures say He was in the tomb. Others would seem to believe that Jesus died to establish as legalistic a church as what He sought to replace in the Pharisees interpretation of Judaism. Maybe not 613 laws as the Pharisee’s had, but none the less still a bunch of rules and regulations to have to follow if we want to be “true” Christian. However is that the real message of Good Friday, or is there something else we are supposed to get from Good Friday? ...
Time For Love - The Bible and Same-Sex Attraction - 48 minutes
This video was sent to me by the producers in the hope that we might help promote it for them. It is done by "supportive straights" in an attempt to convince churches of why they should accept "us". I am not overly impressed with it, but appreciate their desire to help make churches more inclusive. I'd like to get your opinion of it if you take the time to watch it. (It is the last video on the page).
This is a very short, excellent video - a must-see for everyone.
For any who have been following Jamie's transition, this video was done by Shaaba, Jamie's fiance. I found it to be quite insightful and do recommend it to anyone who wishes to understand some of the things our trans family must go through. (second last video in the Trans Topics section)
I have been asked to help promote the Spring Chick Dance on April 21 in Oshawa, ON Canada. I know that we don't have very many members in this area, but it never hurts to put the word out. They have been working hard on it and would love for it to be a success.
You can find all upcoming Events on the MAIN SITE -> Calendar
If you would like to help promote any upcoming concerts, pride events, conferences, festivals, or whatever, please let me know the details and I'll post them on the Calendar.
For the last month or so I have been organizing the Links on the Resources section in an attempt to let you know of all the things we have on the website. While organizing the Menus, I also continue to add content.
I hope you'll check out the RESOURCES site. Run your mouse slowly over each item in the secondary menu (i.e. CHRISTIANITY & HOMOSEXUALITY, SEX, GENDER & ORIENTATION, SAME SEX MARRIAGE, OUR STORIES, GENERAL RESOURCES) to see what's there. I hope you will find something of interest.
We still have several members who have not uploaded pictures. I'd love to do it for you if you just send it to me.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me.
Thank you again for your support.
